Steam Market fee calculator
See exactly what you keep when you sell a Dota 2 item. Steam takes roughly 15% — split between a Steam fee and the game fee — and this works it out to the cent using Steam’s own rounding.
- Buyer pays$10.00
- Steam fee (5%)−$0.43
- Dota 2 game fee (10%)−$0.87
- You receive$8.70
Funds go to your Steam Wallet — spendable on Steam, not withdrawable to a bank. Steam applies a minimum fee of $0.01 each, so very cheap items lose a bit more than 15%.
How the Steam fee works
When someone buys your item, the price they pay is split three ways: you receive the bulk, Steam keeps a 5% transaction fee, and the game publisher (Valve, for Dota 2) keeps a 10% fee. The fees are calculated on the amount you receive, not the buyer’s total, and each has a one-cent minimum — which is why the effective rate creeps above 15% on low-value items.
The number you type into Steam when listing is the buyer’s price. Steam then shows the smaller "you receive" figure beneath it — that lower number is what actually hits your wallet. For the full selling walkthrough, see how to sell Dota 2 items on the Steam Market.

Frequently asked questions
What fee does Steam take when I sell a Dota 2 item?
Roughly 15% — a 5% Steam transaction fee plus a 10% Dota 2 game fee. Both are calculated on the amount you receive (not the buyer’s total) and each has a one-cent minimum, so very cheap items effectively lose a little more than 15%.
If I want to receive a specific amount, what should I list the item for?
Switch the calculator to "I want to receive" and enter your target — it shows the higher list price the buyer must pay so that the net lands on your number after fees.
Is the fee taken from the buyer’s price or from what I receive?
Steam computes the fee from the seller’s proceeds, then adds it on top to get the buyer’s price. That’s why the "you receive" figure Steam shows is always lower than the price you typed when listing.
Can I withdraw Steam Market earnings to my bank?
No. Money from Steam Community Market sales goes to your Steam Wallet and can only be spent on Steam. To turn items into real cash you need a reputable third-party marketplace, with its own fees and risks.
Why do cheap Dota 2 items lose more than 15% to fees?
Because each fee component has a one-cent minimum. On a low-priced item those minimums make up a larger share of the sale, pushing the effective fee above 15%.
