What is an Arcana?

An Arcana is the highest cosmetic tier in Dota 2 — not just a new set of armour, but a complete reimagining of a hero with a custom model, new animations, custom ability effects, unique sounds and even bespoke UI. Only a small number of heroes have ever received one. Because they change so much about how a hero plays and feels, Arcanas are the flagship purchase for players who main a particular hero.

Why Arcana prices swing so wildly

There are really two Arcana markets. Most Arcanas are sold directly from the in-game store at a fixed $35 and bound to your account — they never touch the Community Market, so their price never moves. The Arcanas you see trading are limited, Battle-Pass or event versions, where supply and demand set a live price. Common tradable ones sit around $20–$60; the cheapest fall near $12–$13; and rare retired ones climb well past $100, with the priciest event variants reaching around $260. We break the extremes down in retired & most expensive Arcanas.

How to get an Arcana

  • Buy from the store. The ~7 Arcanas still available cost a fixed $35 and unlock instantly on your account.
  • Buy on the market. Tradable and retired Arcanas are bought from other players — check the live price first and use a reputable venue.
  • Earn through events. Some Arcanas appear as event rewards, such as the Crownfall Candy Shop — though reaching one there takes roughly 160 rerolls.

Are Arcanas worth it?

If it's a hero you play constantly and the look is iconic, an Arcana is the most impactful cosmetic you can buy — and retired ones hold value better than almost anything. If you just want your hero to look great, a cheaper set often gets you most of the way. We weigh the trade-off in full in are Dota 2 Arcanas worth it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Dota 2 Arcana cost?

Arcanas still sold in the in-game store are a fixed $35. On the market, tradable Arcanas range roughly $20–$60, the cheapest fall near $12–$13, and rare retired ones exceed $100 — with the priciest event variants around $260.

How many Dota 2 heroes have an Arcana?

About 24 heroes have received an Arcana over the years, but as of 2026 only around 7 remain buyable in the store. The rest are retired and only available on the market.

What makes an Arcana different from a normal set?

An Arcana overhauls the entire hero — custom model, animations, ability effects, sounds and UI — while a set only changes equipment slots. That total transformation is why Arcanas sit at the top tier and command the highest prices.

Which is the most expensive Dota 2 Arcana?

Limited event Arcanas are the priciest; the seasonal King Kringle variant has sold for just over $260, driven by tiny, time-limited supply. Retired Battle Pass Arcanas that never returned also trade well over $100.
