Every Dota 2 Cosmetic Type, Explained
Beyond hero sets — couriers, wards, HUDs, announcers, music, terrain, taunts and the rest of what you can equip and trade.
When people say "Dota 2 cosmetics" they usually picture hero sets — but the game lets you customise far more than your heroes. From the pet that carries your items to the voice that announces first blood, here's the full menu of cosmetic types and what to know about each.

Hero cosmetics
- Sets & wearables. The core: armor, weapons and equipment that re-skin a hero, sold as single pieces or full bundles. See how slots and bonuses work in item slots & set bonuses.
- Personas & Arcanas. Deeper hero transformations — a new character (Persona) or a full premium rework (Arcana). Compared in Arcana vs Persona vs set.
- Taunts. Emotes your hero can perform, often bundled with Arcanas or events.
Shared & account cosmetics
- Couriers. The cosmetic pet that ferries items — home to some of the priciest collectibles in the game (see couriers & unusual effects).
- Wards. Skins for Observer and Sentry wards — a small flex your whole team sees.
- HUD skins. Re-theme your in-game interface.
- Loading screens. Art shown while a match loads.
- Announcers & mega-kill packs. Replace the voice that calls the action.
- Music packs. Custom in-game soundtracks that react to the match.
- Terrain. Re-skin the whole map — one of the most transformative cosmetics.
- Emoticons, sprays & player cards. Chat flair, map tags and profile/tournament cards.
Non-hero "items" you'll see on the market
- Gems. Sockets that recolor, animate, sign or track — see gems explained.
- Treasures. The unopened chests themselves can be tradable — see treasures explained.
- Tools. Utility items like gem removers, name tags and the like.
Which types are tradable?
Most sets, couriers, wards and gems are tradable, which is why they dominate the market. Many account-flavour items — announcers and terrains from passes, event rewards, anything bought directly in the store — are often account-bound. The rule never changes: confirm an item is Marketable before assuming you can resell it, and check the live price table for what each type actually goes for.
