Dota 2 Immortal Items Explained: Treasures, Golden Variants and Effects

What Immortal rarity means, where Immortal items come from, and why their prices vary.

Immortal is the second-highest rarity tier for Dota 2 cosmetics, just below Arcana. Immortal items are special-release cosmetics, mostly from Battle Pass and Compendium treasures, and many add a custom effect to one of a hero’s abilities. A lot of them also come in a rarer Golden version. Valve no longer sells the older ones, so you buy them from other players.

What Immortal rarity means

Rarity is a label in a ladder that runs from Common through Mythical and Legendary to Immortal and Arcana. It describes how Valve classed the item, and it is cosmetic only: an Immortal never changes a hero’s stats. Many Immortals are single pieces, such as a helmet, a weapon or a back item, not a full set. What makes them special is the custom effect on one spell, shown in these examples from Valve’s 2015 Compendium.

Pick the spell you like to see. A frequent move or farming spell shows its effect every game, while an ultimate shows it rarely. Check the slot too: an Immortal can replace a piece of your favourite set. The slot guide explains how to plan a mixed loadout.

Where Immortal items come from

Compendium and Battle Pass treasures. This is the main source. Immortal Treasures unlocked by levelling the pass and needed no key. In 2015 they also unlocked for all owners as the prize pool passed set goals. Inside, items came in four tiers, from regular to ultra rare, and the chance of the rarer tiers rose with each treasure you opened. Unwanted items could be recycled in the Armory for pass levels. Trust of the Benefactor. In 2017 each Trust of the Benefactor chest held one of the three Immortal Treasures plus a chance at limited-run items.
The Crimson Witness. Each year, viewers who watched the first kill live at the TI playoffs with their TI badge linked to Steam could receive a random Treasure of the Crimson Witness. It holds earlier Immortals reworked with a red particle effect.
Event treasures. Valve also released Immortal treasures with events, for example Aghanim’s 2021 and Nemestice 2021.
Special rewards. At TI 2025 the top Fantasy and Predictions players earned the Tyrian Regalia Immortal sets, which are locked to the account that earned them. The set returned in 2026 as five Immortal recolours for Disruptor, Nyx Assassin, Drow Ranger, Storm Spirit and Timbersaw.

What is an Immortal Treasure?

An Immortal Treasure is a chest of Immortal-rarity items. Valve’s pass pages for 2015 and 2019 say each treasure contains one Immortal item and may add a bonus rarer item. The 2015, 2017 and 2019 passes each had three treasures, I, II and III, with their own item lists. They unlocked at set levels and repeated every 30 levels. The 2015 Level 50 bundle, priced at $26.99, came with three Immortal Treasure I and one Immortal Treasure II. The treasures are items in their own right and sell on the market like any other Immortal.

Golden and other versions

A Golden Immortal is a rarer recolour of the same item in the same slot. In the 2015 Compendium, Golden Moonfall and Golden Basher Blades were extremely rare bonus drops inside the Immortal treasures. The 2017 treasures also held Golden versions, such as Golden Profane Union and Golden Cyrridae. A Golden item fills the same slot, so you pay for the gold look and for scarcity. A quality prefix is a separate label. Inscribed means a gem tracks statistics, Autographed means a player’s signature rune is socketed, and Genuine marks items from special releases and promotions. The rarity guide explains how rarity and quality fit together.

How to choose between two Immortals

Take Moonfall and Golden Moonfall. Both are Luna Off-Hand items, so you can wear only one at a time. If you simply want the Lucent Beam and Eclipse effect, the standard Moonfall gives you that. Pick the Golden version only if you prefer the gold look enough to pay the difference. The same logic works for any pair.

Check the slot and what it replaces in your current set.
Match the exact version: standard, Golden, Crimson, Inscribed or Genuine.
Read the trade status in the item description.
Compare prices on the item page across Steam and other marketplaces.

Can you trade Immortals?

Many Immortals can be traded and sold, but each release set its own rules. Immortals from the 2017 pass could not be traded or sold until TI 2018, though each could be gifted once and ultra-rare items traded at once. Io’s arcana from that pass could never be traded. The 2025 Tyrian Regalia sets stay on the account that earned them. Read the item’s description for the trade and market status before you buy.

Why Immortal prices vary so much

Immortal prices run from very cheap pieces to four-figure sums. The main drivers are:

Supply. A treasure from one year’s pass, or a bonus pulled at ultra-rare odds, gives fewer copies than a common drop.
Version. Golden, Crimson, Inscribed and Genuine copies of the same item are separate listings.
Hero and spell. Popular heroes and effects that show up every game attract more buyers.
Age and release. Items tied to a famous TI or a short window are scarcer than items sold for months.
